From May 10 to 12, 2027, the workshop "Digital Mantras: Mantras across Media and Bodies", organized as part of the ERC Synergy project MANTRAMS will take place at the University of Vienna.
“The workshop asks what happens to mantra practices as they move across bodies, media, platforms, technologies, and ritual environments. Rather than treating “digital religion” as a separate sphere, we are interested in the circuits through which mantras move between embodied, material, digital, and ritual contexts, and in the questions of transmission, authority, presence, efficacy, community, materiality, ethics, and power that emerge through these movements. Particular attention will also be given to generative AI and emerging computational technologies.”
Please send abstracts of 300–500 words centred on a specific digital object, corpus, practice, or media ecology related to mantras, together with a short CV.
