The FID Network Asia brings together a number of regional specialist information services to provide highly specialised information and source material for research in Asian and Oriental Studies. The individual FIDs coordinate their acquisitions activities to ensure optimum regional coverage and to take account of the trans-regional nature of many research questions. Requests and demands for Asia-specific material from the humanities, social sciences, religious studies and literature that go beyond the regional scope of an individual FID are thus served cooperatively in the network.

In addition, the network is developing services in close consultation to address specific issues that are typical of Asian studies needs, such as the standardisation of metadata in original scripts and transliterations, the improvement of OCR and transcription software for non-Latin scripts, and the specificities of research data management for Asian studies materials.
